The 73-year-old singer took to Twitter to reveal he is battling the disease, while assuring fans that he is doing well.
"I was actually screened a few months ago for cancer cells for which I am currently being treated... My life is not in danger today. I'm doing very well and in good physical condition," Hallyday wrote in a note in French translated by Billboard.
The musician has struggled with a series of health problems in the past decade.
Earlier, in 2009, he had a cancerous polyp removed from his colon and was also treated for a herniated disc.
