Driving licences of repeat offenders suspended

The city traffic police ensured that the transport department suspended driving licences of repeat offenders, sending a strong signal to motorists violating rules.

In 2016, 11,862 DLs were suspended for drunken driving and 5,900 DLs for other traffic offences. In 2015, 9,145 DLs were suspended for drunken driving and 5,849 DLs were suspended for various other traffic offences.

R Hithendra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, “The traffic police had sent the DLs of repeat offenders for suspension to the transport department. They confirmed that the offenders had violated traffic rules more than twice and their DLs were suspended. Most of the licences suspended were those of motorists who were caught driving or riding under the influence of alcohol. Even the DL of motorists violating basic traffic rules repeatedly, were suspended.”
