No proposal to have a no fly list for unruly passengers: Government

NEW DELHI: The government today ruled out a "no fly list" for unruly passengers but said 53 such instances were reported since July last year.

"There is no such proposal in the Ministry," Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha told the Lok Sabha.

The maximum number of instances of passengers misbehaving were reported by SpiceJet (20), followed by Indigo (12) and AirAsia India (9).

According to the Minister, while full-service carrier Vistara reported six such cases, budget airline GoAir had five cases of unruly passengers reported on its flights.

Jet Airways had one such instance since July, Sinha said in a written reply.

According to the global aviation body, International Air Transport Association (IATA), unruly passengers are one of the top three safety issues that concern cabin crew.

As per IATA, in 2015 there were 10,854 reported cases of unruly incidents across airlines worldwide, roughly one incident for every 1,205 flights.
