New Delhi: The results of exit polls for Uttar Pradesh (UP), Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, Manipur have been released after the Election Commission (EC) deadline ended on Thursday at 5.30pm.
While the results of assembly elections will be announced on 11 March, here are the latest updates and highlights from the exit polls:
■ What the exit polls are saying about UP
— The VMR exit poll in collaboration with Times Now predicts a saffron wave in Uttar Pradesh with over 34% vote share for the BJP. According to the survey, 34% vote will roughly translate anywhere between 190-210 seats for BJP in UP. Any party needs at least 202 seats to prove its majority.
— VMR predicts 28% vote share for the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, giving it 110-130 seats. The party will emerge as the second largest in UP, according to VMR-Times Now exit poll 2017.
— Mayawati’s BSP will get between 54 and 74 seats in the UP Assembly, according to VMR-Times Now exit poll 2017.
— NewsX-MRC exit poll also predicts BJP wave in Uttar Pradesh, predicts 185 seats for the saffron party. The UP exit poll says SP-Congress will win 120 seats and the BSP will end up with 90 seats.
— India News-MRC survey says the BJP will win 188 seats in UP, while the SP-Congress alliance will end up with 120 seats. The BSP is predicted to finish third with 90 seats.
— ABP News-CSDS predicts that the BJP will win 164-176 seats, while the Congress-SP combine will win 156-169. The BSP will get 60-72 seats.
— In Uttar Pradesh, the CNN-News18-Gramener projection says the BJP will win 161 seats, short of the 202-halfway mark. The Congress-SP alliance is tipped to get 147 seats, while the BSP is predicted to be at third spot with 81 seats.
■ What the exit polls are saying about Punjab
— The NewsX-MRC exit poll says the Congress and the AAP will both win 55 seats, while the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) combine may decline to seven seats. The halfway mark in Punjab is 58 seats.
— India Today-Axis Exit Poll also predicts Congress victory in Punjab with 62 seats in the 117-seat Assembly. AAP, making its debut in the state, is predicted to get 42 seats. The BJP-Akali Dali is predicted to get just between four and seven seats.
— India TV-C-Voter has predicted an AAP victory in Punjab, giving the debutant party 59-67 seats in the 117-seat Assembly. It says the Congress will get between 41-49 seats. It has predicted just five to 13 seats for the ruling Akali Dal-BJP combine.
— CNN-News 18’s Gramener projection says the AAP will be the single-largest party in Punjab, with 57 seats — just two short of majority. The Congress is predicted to win 53 seats, while the ruling Akali Dal-BJP combine may end up with just seven seats.
■ What the exit polls are saying about Uttarakhand
— News24 and Chanakya exit poll predicts a BJP dominance in Uttarakhand with 53 seats, followed by Congress 15, and others two.
— The CNN-News18-Gramener exit poll has predicted 38 seats for the BJP, while the Congress is tipped to get 26. Others may get around six seats. The halfway mark in the hill state is 36.
— India Today-Axis exit poll survey predicts 48-53 seats for the BJP, while the Congress is predicted to win 12-21 seats. Others are seen winning 2-6 seats.
— NewsX-MRC exit poll survey predicts 38 seats for the BJP, while the Congress is predicted to win 30 seats. Others are seen winning 2 seats.
— According to ABP News’ exit poll, BJP may bag 34-42 seats in the 70-member Assembly, reducing the incumbent Congress to 24-9 seats.
■ What the exit polls are saying about Goa
— India TV-C-voter exit poll in Goa indicates BJP will get between 15-21 seats, followed by Congress 12-18 and up to four seats for AAP. Goa Assembly has 40 seats, making 21 the half-way mark.
— NewsX-MRC predicts 15 seats for the BJP, 10 for the Congress and seven for the debutant AAP.
— India Today-Axis exit poll survey predicts 18-22 seats for the BJP, while the Congress is predicted to win 9-13 seats. AAP is predicted to win 0-2 seats, while others are seen winning 4-9 seats.
— In Goa, the CNN-News18-Gramener exit poll predicts 19 seats for the BJP and 14 for the Congress. The AAP may get six seats.
■ What the exit polls are saying about Manipur
— India TV-C-voter exit poll predicts a fight between the BJP and Congress in Manipur with marginal difference in numbers. BJP to get 25-31 seats, followed by Congress with 17-23, and others with 9-15.
— CNN-News18-Gramener exit poll says the BJP will win 25 seats in Manipur, while the Congress will win 24. Eleven seats may go to others. The halfway mark in the state is 31.
■ All five states witnessed high turnout with polling in Goa touching 81% on February 4. The same day Punjab saw a turnout of 77.37%. Of the seven phases in Uttar Pradesh election, the maximum polling was in the second phase when 65.16% voters exercised their franchise. The two-phased polling in Manipur saw a turnout of 85.5% and 86%, respectively. The turnout in Uttarakhand was 65.64%. (CNN-News18)
