Sports infrastructure development to be taken up in J&K: Vijay Goel

KOLKATA: Sports infrastructure development would be taken up in Jammu and Kashmir and a special development package of Rs 200 crore is being implemented said Vijay Goel, The Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports.

This package includes construction and renovation of various facilities like Bakshi stadium, M A stadium, development of infrastructure for water sports activities at Pahalgam Lake and Mansar Lake. There would also be up gradation of existing stadium at places like Rajouri and Poonch. There would also be construction of indoor Sports hall at 22 locations across Jammu and Kashmir.

An 8-week certificate course along with practical training, officiating, judging for the specialized sports is being conducted by this Ministry for sportspersons, coaches and physical education teachers of Jammu and Kashmir with a view to bring disgruntled youth into national mainstream.

SAI has started these courses and the first two courses for 59 persons and for 62 persons were conducted during November 2016 to February, 2017 and the 3rd course for 69 persons is being conducted during March-April, 2017. Once these community coaches are deployed they would be able to identify and nurture young talent.
