Kansas killing: Hate crimes have increased in the new US president regime, says Mallikarjun Kharge
NEW DELHI: Opposition parties today raised the issue of recent incidents of hate crime in the US, in Lok Sabha today.
"Such incidents (on attacks on Indians in USA) have increased after the new US President has taken charge," Mallikarjun Kharge,Congress leader said in Lok Sabha.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweets on every other issue, why doesn't he talk on this issue? Why is he silent?" Kharge asked.
"Prime Minister should make a statement on the issue and tell the House what government is doing on the issue," he said.
Speaking on the issue, TMC MP Saugata Roy questioned why the Government of India isn't securing the interest of Indians in the US.
Giving government's response over the issue, Union Home Minister said: "Incidents regarding Indians in US has been taken very seriously. A detailed statement on behalf of government will be given in the Parliament next week."
There has been recent incidents of hate crime in US against Indian including killing of Srinivas Kuchibhotla in Kansas.
Two Indians -- Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani -- were shot at in a bar in Kansas last month by a former US navy serviceman shouting "get out of my country".
