The Assam government today constituted a one-man inquiry committee, headed by the Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department V B Pyarelal, to inquire into the circumstances leading to violence that erupted at Silapathar town in Dhemaji District on March 6.
The violence took place during the procession taken out by Nikhil Bharat Bengali Utbasta Sammonnay Samity leading to the destruction of an office of the local unit of All Assam Students' Union and also causing damage to the public and private property, a government release here today said.
The committee will submit its report within 30 days from the date of issue of the notification, the release said.
