Ola expects Rentals to grow 4x through Ola Play offering

MUMBAI: Ride hailing aggregator Ola Cabs is charting a steady growth strategy through its connected car platform Ola Play.

The connected car platform for ride sharing which has been built by Ola in partnership with Qualcomm will now be available on Ola Rentals which was launched early last year. With Ola Play's launch in Rentals, the company expects the demand for this category to grow by at least 4x times over the next quarter.

"Ola Play and Rentals together will provide a highly personalised, context-aware ride experience, as customers move from one point to another and resume on Play right from where they left last. We see a great fit there," said Ankit Jain, Senior Director and Head of Ola Play.

Ola Rentals has been getting most traction from Ola’s corporate customers and specific use cases like airport pickups, day long meetings etc. The Rentals category is now available in almost 100 cities, and has witnessed a sharp growth of over 200% in the last quarter, Ola claims. The aggregator has partnered with Arre, Apple Music, Sony LIV, AIB, TVF and others to build an interactive experience for users through Ola Play.

Initially available only on the aggregator's premium subscription service - Ola Select, which witnessed a growth of over 300%, Ola Play is now available for all Ola customers on its Prime platform. Opening up Ola Play to customers beyond those on Ola Select was the aggregator's way to win back customers it had lost to Uber, it had said at the time.

"We have big ambitions for Ola Play. By 2017 end, we want over 50% of the rides on Ola to be enabled with Prime Play," Jain had told ET in January.
