State urban development department invites private players to Bengal

KOLKATA: Inviting fresh investments from the real estate sector, state urban development minister Firhad Hakim said, "I would request the private players to come up with innovative ideas. We can discuss it and also implement it at the end of the discussion.” While addressing a two day architectural convention 'Connecting History' Hakim sighted the example of innovative spaces in the city like Mamata Banerjee’s brainchild Eco Park.

“Eco Park is now one of the best tourist spots across Bengal. It has completely changed the face of New Town – a new concept of urban park surrounded by greenery. This park is very popular among the tourists now and we look forward to have more such facilities in the state,” the minister added.

Other delegates present at the convention like Member of Parliament Sugata Bose mentioned the importance of the outskirts of the city being developed.
"The areas like Bhangar, Sonarpur, Baruipur are very important. Those small towns should be developed to cities," Bose said.

“They should not be redeveloped. The new structures can co-exist with old structures. Kolkata can be a global city, if we can maintain those heritages properly," Bose added.
