Congress is a family-owned enterprise, says Karti Chidambaram
CHENNAI: Former Union finance minister and veteran Congress member P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram said on Monday that there was “ample space for a new political outfit as most of the existing parties, including Congress, are family-owned enterprises and have shut their door to aspiring politicians.
“Most of the regional and national parties, including Congress, have become private family properties and are beyond redemption.Thus, a newcomer who is in terested in joining politics will not fit into any of these parties as he would have to praise the head or other leaders in the party ,“ said Karti.He was speaking at a function organised by Generation 67 (G67) to commemo rate 50 years of Dravi dian rule in TN.
Blaming all parties for favouring only family members of members, Karti said, “Has any political party invited people like Google CEO Sundar Pichai or an IIT topper to contest elections?
Whether it is Congress, BJP, DMK, AIADMK, or any other political party in the north, all are family-con trolled and an outsider has no chance.“ Incidentally , in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Karti was fielded as the Congress candidate from Sivaganga, a constituency nurtured by his dad for 30 years.
He said that G67 was not a political party in the making, but added that when Donald Trump could become US President within a short period, anything could happen in TN too. “Did anyone predict that Jayalalithaa would die, the next in command (OPS) would be expelled from the party and the party's powerful woman (V K Sasikala) would end up in prison? I cannot predict as to what will happen to G67,“ said Karti.
