Taiwan working with India to promote tourism back home

MUMBAI: Taiwan is working with the Indian travel industry to bolster tourism between the two countries, its tourism department said Tuesday.

"Taiwan had witnessed an exponential growth of Indian tourists in the year 2016," a statement said. It didn't give absolute numbers.

Taiwan's tourism department had organised seminars last month at the OneWorld Travel Mart in Mumbai wherein at least 10 of the major travel companies from Taiwan worked with their Indian counterparts.

"The aim of the seminar was to educate and motivate the front liner staff of Mumbai, and update their knowledge about Taiwan, the products it has to offer, USP's of the destination, exchange rate, visa and the how it caters to different segments of the Indian travelers," said the statement.

Present at the seminars and OTM was a large delegation from Taiwan that included Arthur Hsieh, Director, Taiwan Tourism Bureau, Singapore Office, Cherng Tyan, Su, Vice Chairman, Taiwan Visitors Association, Hsiao Tzu-Ying and Huang Yeh-Yin Secretary, Taiwan Visitors Association, Chang, Lung-Cheng and Hsieh Chang-Ming, Director, Taiwan Tourism Bureau, said the statement.

Taiwan was recently among the top hotel destinations to slash room rates, according to a study by travel company Tripadvisor, making it more attractive to the price-sensitive Indian customer.
