Inland Transport H C Mahadevappa today visited the old port at Bunder in the city to inspect and review the development works being carried out there with the assistance of Asian Development (ADB).



He later told reporters that a committee had been formed to periodically review and inspect the works on ports and inland transport.

The previous had in 2011 sanctioned Rs 911 crore for port development and inland transport works in the state, he said.

For the old port here, the state would bear 15 percent of the total cost for upgradation and the remaining 85 percent would be provided by ADB, he said.

The first phase of work, started in 2014, was expected to be completed this year.

The second phase would be completed by the year 2020, he said.

He said the upgradation of the port was aimed at promoting tourism which would generate more employment.

The project would also be a boost for the fishing industry, he said.
