A 23-year-old constable with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) shot himself at the Mumbai Central terminal in Mumbai on Saturday night.
According to the Times of India, Dalbir Singh committed suicide because he allegedly did not get sufficient leave for his wedding.
Singh, who shot himself with his service AK-47 rifle, was taken to a nearby hospital in a critical condition, where he died during treatment. He had shot himself in the chest.
A Mumbai Mirror report suggests that his family was insisting that he take 15 to 20 days off for the wedding, but Singh was only given five days of leave, starting 11 March.
"He reached the office, wore his uniform and picked up his service rifle," a colleague of Singh's told the Hindustan Times. "He was speaking on the phone and it seemed like he was talking to his family members. He was a little upset and after disconnecting the call he shot two rounds in his chest."
Singh, who hailed from Haryana, had been working with the RPF since 2014.
