The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Union of India on a plea which alleged that the people of India should not deposit old currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 till March last.
A bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar, also comprising of Justices D. Y. Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul has sought a reply from Central Government that why the old currency notes could not be deposited till March last.
The Central Government had in its notification said that old currency notes can be deposited till March last, but subsequently it withdrew its notification.
The court did not indicate the next date of hearing.
