New Delhi: Delhi lieutenant governor (LG) Anil Baijal on Monday, addressing the assembly on the first day of the budget session, highlighted the work undertaken by the government led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
This was the first time Baijal addressed the assembly since taking over the role of LG of the national capital of Delhi in December last year.
He said that education and health have been the key focus areas of the government.

“For inclusive development, my (Delhi) government had identified education as one of the key sectors. As a result of the government’s focused attention for improving the quality of education, students of Delhi have done exceedingly well. Government is focused on providing affordable health services to its citizens. At present, 36 multi-specialty hospitals including six super specialty hospitals with more than 11,000 beds are functioning,” Baijal said in his 30 minute address to the members of the assembly.
He added, “My government is committed to ensure that every citizen has the right to basic needs of life and it’s the duty of the government to fulfil those requirements. Accordingly, government continues to provide free water up to a monthly consumption of 20 KL. Similarly, electricity tariff at reduced rates for domestic consumers up to 400 units per month continues.”
The five-day budget session of the Delhi assembly started on Monday. The government is likely to present its budget on Wednesday. The third budget of the AAP government will be presented ahead of municipal corporation elections.
Opposition leaders criticized the government.
“Kejriwal government fails to provide vision for future through LG’s address. Nothing but summary of contents of the government’s recent publicity campaign,” Vijender Gupta, leader of opposition, said on Twitter.
