A 24-year-old physically and mentally challenged woman got pregnant after she was repeatedly raped allegedly by a neighbour at her house in Hinjili in Ganjam district.
The man used to rape the differently abled woman when she was alone at home and he was caught during the act on Sunday by her mother, police said.
He then fled but was did not leave the village.
Police said the accused, a 41-year-old father of two, was arrested after the victim's mother, a widow, lodged a police complaint today.
Both the victim and the accused were sent for medical examinations, police said.
Stating that the woman was now pregnant, her mother said the accused was raping her daughter for the past several days when there was nobody else in the house.
