Key Union ministers to address ET Infra Summit on March 9

NEW DELHI: India's top Cabinet ministers in the infrastructure domain will address The Economic Times India Infra Summit 2017, which brings together policy makers and corporate leaders involved in accelerating the development of Railways, highways, ports, shipping, smart cities and housing.

The summit will be held on March 9 in New Delhi.

Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, and Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari and Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu will chair sessions in the summit, which is ET's first edition of a definitive public-private dialogue on issues facing policymaking in the sector.

Infrastructure development, a key requirement for the double-digit economic growth that India aims to achieve, has been on top of the agenda of the Narendra Modi government.

The government has increased the flow of funds to the sector and taken major policy initiatives to facilitate domestic and foreign investment to provide people modern facilities for high-speed trains, expressways, affordable housing with a clear policy framework.

India's infrastructure development has already cleared many bottlenecks and legacy issues that had obstructed the sector, but the country has miles to go. Over the next decade, an estimated $1.5 trillion is needed to create new infrastructure and overhaul the existing facilities.

To achieve this, there is enormous scope to increase public-private collaboration to create a financially sound and environmentally sustainable sector on the basis of mutual trust and Cabinet ministers, bankers and industrialists will discuss ways to further accelerate infrastructure development - a process that generates demand and propels the economy towards rapid growth.
