Bengaluru: In another setback to the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka, former minister S. Kumar Bangarappa on Friday announced his exit from the Congress. He is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Bangarappa’s exit comes at a time when many senior Congress leaders have decided to end years of association with the party before the crucial 2018 state elections, citing reasons including ill-treatment, sidelining by functionaries and refusal to allow youngsters into key posts.
Bangarappa—the son of late former Karnataka chief minister S. Bangarappa—will join the BJP on 9 March.
“The main reason is that as an organisation the Congress is collapsing due to groupism which has affected every district of the state,” Kumar Bangarappa, 54, told Mint.
