Bengal BJP urged CBI to shift Saradha chit fund owner from state

KOLKATA: A high-power BJP delegation from Bengal met the CBI joint director here on Wednesday and urged him to shift Sudipta Sen, owner of the Saradha chit fund company, to any other jail outside Bengal. Sen, the prime accused in Saradha chit fund scam, has been languishing in a Bengal jail.

The delegation represented by party chief Dilip Ghosh, party's national secretary and former state party chief Rahul Sinha and senior leader Subhas Sarkar met CBI joint director A.K.Singh at Nizam Palace here on Wednesday and urged him to remove Sen from a jail in the city to any jail outside the state.

"Sudipta Sen is the prime accused in the Saradha chit fund scam which is being probed by the CBI following Supreme Court's instruction. We have information that Sen had reduced weight significantly in the jail where he has been languishing. We fear that a conspiracy is being hatched to eliminate the Saradha chit fund owner. We have, therefore urged the CBI chief to remove Sen from Bengal jail to anywhere in the country," Subhas Sarkar, senior BJP leader told ET on Thursday.

A number of heavyweight Trinamool Congress leaders like former Bengal transport minister Madan Mitra, party MP Kunal Ghosh were arrested by the CBI for their alleged involvement in Saradha chit fund scam. Even though both the leaders are on bail now, the ruling party in Bengal is not in a very comfortable position as the probe agency is likely to speed up investigation into the scam and might summon some Trinamool Congress leaders including MPs and ministers in connection with their investigation.

BJP leaders, during their meeting with the CBI boss, also submitted a list which contained names of three senior Bengal police officials who had allegedly destroyed many important files and documents related to Saradha scam. "By destroying many Saradha files, these officers had practically made CBI's job much more difficult and helped indirectly Mamata Banerjee's party. We want CBI to speed up their investigation into the chit fund scam and arrest all Trinamool activists who are involved in the scam," Sarkar said refusing to name the three Bengal police officials.

Political circles here feel that BJP is trying to mount pressure on the CBI at a time when Mamata Banerjee's police and administration are trying to implicate their leaders falsely in criminal cases. Already, the CID has arrested BJP Mohila Morcha general secretary Juhi Chowdhury for her alleged involvement in the Jalpaiguri child trafficking case and looking for some other BJP leaders.

By mounting pressure on the Central probe agency to speed up their probe into chit fund scam, the saffron brigade in Bengal is trying best to thwart CPIM and Congress which are constantly running campaign about Trinamool-BJP secret understanding.
