General secretary of Bengal BJP's Mahila Morcha arrested in a child trafficking case

KOLKATA: The criminal investigation department (CID) of the West Bengal police will produce Juhi Choudhury, general secretary of Bengal BJP’s Mahila Morcha for her alleged involvement into a child trafficking case. Choudhury, who has allegedly been absconding for last few days, was picked up from a small village near West Bengal-Nepal border last night by a special team of the CID. Choudhury has been interrogated for several hours before her production in the court today.

Choudhury’s name surfaced a week ago in connection with a child- trafficing case after CID arrested Chandana Chakrabarty for allegedly selling children through an NGO based in North Bengal. Chandana used to be the chairman of the said NGO.

According to sources, Chandana’s NGO used to operate as an adoption centre, though it did not have the necessary licenses to run the child adoption centre. Juhi, who is also a resident of North Bengal has reportedly been approached by Chandana seeking help to get the central license for running an adoption centre.

The CID sleuths stumbled upon CCTV footages, during investigation that featured Juhi escorting Chandana to a central minister’s office in Delhi. Sources further added that Juhi managed an appointment of the central minister of concerned department through the confidential assistant of a national leader of BJP.

Juhi’s father Rabindranath Choudhury is a veteran leader of Bengal BJP. He served the party as the state secretary during the second term of Rahul Sinha as BJP’s Bengal president. The accused persons have been booked under different sections of IPC and Juvenile Justice Act relating to child trafficking, conspiracy and others.

Meanwhile, BJP’s state president Dilip Ghosh has said that he would hold a meeting to take a decision on Juhi. “She has been arrested. I will not comment on her now as she is under investigation now. We will decide on the future course of action after the meeting,” said Ghosh.
