Sony, BBC Worldwide JV to launch Sony BBC Earth in India on March 6

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN), along with UK pubcaster the BBC's commercial arm BBC Worldwide, is set to launch premium factual entertainment channel Sony BBC Earth in India on Monday, March 6 at 8 pm.

The channel will debut with 19 hours of original content every week as it will take on international giants like Discovery Network, 21st Century Fox-owned National Geographic Network and Network18- A&E Network owned History TV18.

Interestingly, while BBC Earth is available in 39 countries, in India, for the first time, the channel is launching as a joint venture with SPN (74%), while BBC Worldwide owning 26% holding.

The channel comes with a brand positioning of ‘Feel Alive’, and will offer BBC content including shows from film-makers and story tellers like Sir David Attenborough, Steve Backshall, Ben Fogle, Dr Michael Mosley and Gordon Buchanan.

Sony BBC Earth has roped in Kareena Kapoor Khan as channel ambassador.
