Copper futures rise 0.70 per cent on global cues

Copper prices moved up by 0.70 per cent to Rs 394.95 per kg in futures in evening trade today as speculators built up fresh positions amid firm trend overseas.

The exchange remained closed in morning session for 'Mahashivratri'.



At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April month rose by Rs 2.75, or 0.70 per cent to Rs 394.95 per kg in business turnover of 306 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in February traded higher by Rs 2.60, or 0.67 per cent to Rs 391.40 per kg in 1,085 lots.

Analysts fresh positions built up by participants, tracking a firm trend overseas, mainly attributed the rise in copper prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three month rose 0.6 per cent to USD 5,896 a metric tonne, rebounding from the biggest daily drop in 17 months as traders turned bullish amid supply disruptions at big mines at the Metal Exchange.
