Chennai: On the 69th birth anniversary of late chief minister J.Jayalalithaa on Friday, her niece Deepa Jayakumar floated a new party—MGR Amma Deepa Peravai.
“This is a medium that will enable us to work for the welfare of the people,” said Deepa who assured that she would contest from R.K. Nagar constituency. The R.K. Nagar seat fell vacant following the demise of Jayalalithaa on 5 December.
Deepa added that she would retrieve the Irattai Illai (two leaves) symbol of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
She said that there is a traitor group operating behind the government.
Meanwhile, Deepa’s brother Deepak Jayakumar, who had supported AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala on Thursday claimed that his aunt Jayalalithaa had bequeathed her properties, including her Veda Nilayam bungalow in Poes Garden to his sister Deepa and him, by leaving behind a will.
Deepak said Sasikala assuming the top post was “unacceptable” to the people of Tamil Nadu and asserted that party members did not favour T.T.V. Dinakaran’s appointment as deputy general secretary of AIADMK.
