AIADMK Presidium Chairman K.A. Sengottaiyan will lead the 69th birthday celebrations of former party chief and late J Jayalalithaa on February 24. AIADMK asked its supporters to pay rich tributes to the late Chief Minister by organising feasts and distribute welfare measures to the poor, besides keeping portraits of Jayalalithaa decked with flowers for public view and pay tributes to her.
Big data management, the challenges of ushering in digitisation after demonetisation and related issues will be discussed at a two-day conference on ‘Digital India in global IT spectrum: Innovate, integrate and transform’ being organised in Visakhapatnam on February 24 and 25 by the Computer Society of India. The conference may attract 250 delegates including 20 experts from the US and 10 start-ups from Visakhapatnam will also participate, according to CSI city chapter chairman and RINL Director (Operations) D.N. Rao.
Expressing a desire to serve the people, Deepa Jayakumar, niece of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, has said she would make an announcement on February 24. Earlier, she had hit out at the AIADMK for keeping her in the dark about Jayalalithaa’s illness. "I am here because of my aunt, Jayalalithaa. I want to complete the tasks that she's left behind. My primary concern is about the state, the people and what's going to happen to them. Unless I'm given an opportunity to serve the people, we can't say what I can do or not,” she said in a press conference.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to unveil a 112-ft tall face of Lord Shiva or ‘Adiyogi’ at Isha Foundation in Coimbatore on Mahashivaratri, which falls on Friday. According to the Foundation, on Mahasivaratri Modi will light the sacred fire to commence the ‘Maha Yoga Yagna’ across the world when one million people will take oath to teach a simple form of yoga to at least 100 persons in the coming year.
The three-day South Asian Literature festival opens in Delhi today. The festival, organised by the Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature (FOSWAL), will not feature writers from Pakistan this year. “We did not get permission from the authorities to invite delegates from Pakistan,” FOSWAL Founder and President Ajeet Cour said. Based on the theme of ‘Beyond Borders’ and ‘Endeavoring for peace and tranquility in the region’, the festival will see participation from the other eight SAARC countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Malaysia and India among others.
