Vivek Chaand Sehgal, Nandan Nilekani amongst the winners of EY entrepreneur of the year awards

NEW DELHI: Vivek Chaand Sehgal, chairman of Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd, the flagship company of Samvardhana Motherson Group, was today named the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) 2016. One of the world's top auto-component suppliers, Samvardhana Motherson Group has presence in more than 26 countries across six continents.

The awards were presented by Piyush Goyal, minister of state (independent charge) for the Ministry of Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines and Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of state (independent charge), Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

Sehgal will now represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award (WEOY) in Monte Carlo from 7-11 June 2017. In its 18th year in India, the EOY awards celebrate those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses.

Nandan Nilekani was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the Unique Identification Authority of India. Nilekani is now Honorary Advisor to the National Payments Corporation of India which spearheads the government's digital payments campaign.

The awards were presented in nine other categories.

Dr Abhay Firodia, Chairman, Force Motors, got the award in the category of business transformation. In the consumer products & retail category, the award went to Chandubhai Virani, whole-time Director of Balaji Wafers. The Entrepreneurial CEO award was given to Uday Shankar, Chairman and CEO of Star India.

Vishwavir Ahuja, MD and CEO of RBL Bank, was presented the award in financial services category. Life sciences & healthcare award went to Samprada Singh and Basudeo Narain Singh, Chairman Emeritus and Executive Chairman, respectively, of Alkem Laboratories.

The award for manufacturing was presented to Hari Mohan Bangur, MD of Shree Cement. Real estate & infrastructure award was given to Vikas Oberoi, CMD of Oberoi Realty. R Dinesh, MD of TVS Logistics Services, was given the award in the services category. The award in the start-up category was given to Darshan Patel, CMD of Vini Cosmetics.
