PWD to start relaying Delhi roads from Sunday

The Public Works Department (PWD) of will undertake a massive exercise to relay and strengthen some roads in the national capital from Sunday onwards.

The department has set aside a budget of around Rs 150 crore for the exercise which will continue till March 31.



Sources said that no major road repair work has been taken up in in the last few months following which the decision was taken.

"From Sunday onwards, the PWD will start relaying and strengthening its roads, which are in a pathetic condition. A Rs 150 crore-plan has been drawn up to undertake the exercise," an official said.

Among roads which are expected to be repaired are Qutub Minar Road, Arihant Marg in front of Azadpur Mandi, Ulan Bator Marg, Pusa Road, Shankar Road and several others in various parts of the capital.

Last year, PWD Minister Satyendar Jain had directed his department to prepare a comprehensive road repair plan.

Most roads in the city were re-carpeted or strengthened before the 2010 Commonwealth Games and are currently in urgent need of repair.
