Sembcorp readies second power plant in AP

The first unit was completed in the fourth quarter of 2016

commissioned its second 660 MW of its 1,320 MW coal-based power plant in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, thereby completing a key project in its portfolio. The first unit was completed in the fourth quarter of 2016. This comes at a time when private sector is pulling away from the conventional power generation sector due to stagnant power demand.

is a joint venture between Sembcorp Utilities a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries and NCC Infrastructure Holdings Limited which is promoted by NCC Limited and Gayatri Energy Ventures a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gayatri Projects Limited.

Atul Nargund, Managing Director of Sembcorp Gayatri Power, said, "The successful completion of the 1,320 MW supercritical thermal power plant reinforces our long-term commitment to supporting India's continued development and its energy security. We are thankful to the local community, the local administration, the state and the central governments and look forward to their continued support for this project."

The project is a super critical coal based power plant operating on high energy efficiency standards and emissions.
