SBI to investigate the Rs 2000 fake note dispensed from ATM

Government owned State Bank of India said it is investigating into the reports that fake notes of Rs 2000 were being dispensed from its Sangam Vihar ATM in Delhi while adding that it "suspects involvement of some miscreant and mischievous intent."

In a statement issued to media, the bank has said that the bank is examining the notes in all other ATMs handled by the same custodians of the bank and replenished by the same cash replenishment agency.

The ATM, which dispensed fake Rs 2000 notes that stated Children's Bank of India, has been sealed by Delhi Police for further investigation. The bank said that the DVSS footage obtained from the ATM has been handed over to the police authorities.

SBI has pointed out that the complainant has not approved the bank regarding fake notes being dispensed from their ATM.

SBI also said all its currency chests have robust system for monitoring the quality of notes. All notes received by the bank and to be dispensed by the vank, either through its ATMs or its branches, are processed through the latest state-of-the-art ‘Note Sorting Machines’. These machines are equipped with the templates of all legal tender in the country and any note not conforming to the security features is separated as ‘Suspect Note’ for further manual scrutiny. Thus, no fake note is likely to be dispensed through bank’s ATMs at any time, said SBI is a statement to media.
