N Chandrasekaran takes over as chief of the Tata group today, hoping to put behind a boardroom battle that saw the ouster of Cyrus Mistry as Tata Sons Chairman. Popularly known as ‘Chandra’, the 54-year-old will be the first non-Parsi chairman of the 150-year old Tata Group. He was the CEO and MD of TCS, prior to being selected for the top job in the Tata group.

Paytm Payments Bank Ltd is to start operations on Tuesday. The company is likely to start operations in Uttar Pradesh — founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma’s home State. It will then expand operations to the North-East in the first phase, and is likely to have around 1 lakh banking correspondents.

The FIPB will decide on 24 foreign investment proposals, including those of Vodafone India and Dr Reddy's Laboratories, on Tuesday. The 243rd meeting of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board, to be chaired by Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das, will have 24 items on the agenda. They include investment applications of Flag Telecom Singapore Pte, Gland Pharma, JC Decaux Advertising India, Twinstar Technologies, Franklin Templeton Asset Management, Otto Waste System, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, and Hindustan Aeronautics, besides the investment proposals of Venus Aesthetic Ltd, Ghel Rendev India Pvt Ltd and Twinstar Technologies Ltd.

HTC is to launch its first U-series smartphone, aka the U Ultra, in India on Tuesday. The HTC U Ultra, which was launched alongside another smartphone called the U Play in January, is a high-end phone with high-end specs. The U Ultra, the company’s flagship phone, is a 5.7-inch phone while the U Play maxes out at 5.2-inch. Both the phones, come with HTC's new Sense Companion AI which "isn't just about machine learning, but an extension of you," according to the company. The U Ultra and the U Play are capable of learning and adapting as per usage, says HTC. To make the phones more AI-friendly, HTC has incorporated four always-on low-power microphones inside them, so they can respond to every command.

Elections to 11 Zilla Parishads, 118 Panchayat Samitis and 10 Municipal Corporations across Maharashtra, including the country’s richest civic body, the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation, will be held on Tuesday, in the second phase of local elections in the state. The first phase of elections on February 16 saw polling for 15 Zilla Parishads and 165 Panchayat Samitis. The counting for all the elections will take place simultaneously on February 23 and the results are likely to be declared the same day. The elections are considered as a ‘mini-assembly election’ and a mid-term verdict on the performance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ two-and-a-half-year-old government. Nearly 10 crore voters will exercise their franchise in the two-phased elections.
