Startups visit IIT Kharagpur to hire interns

NEW DELHI: Over 1500 students from about 80 institutes all over the country participated in the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2017 hosted by the entrepreneur-cell of IIT Kharagpur in first week of February. About 50 startups visited this meet to pick up fresh talent for internship.

"This was a big opportunity for those planning to launch their startups in the near future. They would get to work with the startups and gather firsthand experience of working and building an organization from scratch," said Chakit Chawda, assistant manager of the entrepreneurship cell of IIT Kharagpur.

Supervasi, an organization that works towards improving the lives of tribals is looking at over 1000 engineers to intern for a year, according to one of its promoters shared IIT Kharagpur's spokesperson.

Hunny Bhagchandani, founder of Torch-It -- a startup for easing the life of visually impair —- was also at the venue.

"The torch developed by us replaces the conventional white cane. Our handheld device with distance sensors vibrates and lets the visually impaired know his distance from objects around him. Today I am looking for interns who would be helping me in further developing the product and do its branding. We have already received an order of 2000 piece and would go on production next month," Bhagchandani said.

There were internship offers from Asaan.com, a platform to help friends shop by analyzing products and services through social media reviews, uploads, sharing and comments.

This event was organized by Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship at IIT Kharagpur which runs M-Tech, MS and PhD in engineering entrepreneurship. The Institute has the policy of deferred placement as well, wherein a student can opt-out for placement, try for entrepreneurial ventures and in case does not succeed can reappear for placement at Kharagpur after 1-2 years.
