Putting up a united face, Yadav clan campaigns for ‘bahu’ Aparna Yadav

LUCKNOW: “Bahut badhiya (great),” said Dimple Yadav as Aparna Yadav returned to take her chair next to her after telling a packed gathering that her ‘badi bhabhi’ was here to give her blessings and this was a tight slap to their opponents who were spreading rumours about the Yadav family.

All smiles and chatty on stage, this was the first time the two ‘bahus’ of the Yadav family were seen together in these elections after they were widely perceived to be in opposite camps during the family feud.

Dimple on Wednesday evening came to a busy market crossing in Lucknow to ask for votes for the younger bahu, Aparna, who is fighting from the Lucknow cantonment seat. Earlier in the day, family patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav also held a public meeting for Aparna.

“Please make Aparna win as this is my prestige issue. Inse mera samaan juda hai (My prestige is tied to her win). She is my son’s wife. People told me she will win but I was worried. Today, after coming and seeing this crowd, I am reassured that Aparna will win,” Mulayam pleaded to the crowd.

Dimple was combative in her speech and took on PM Narendra Modi, Lucknow MP and Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Uma Bharti as Aparna stood by her side, adjusted Dimple’s mike and clapped with the crowd. “What has your Lucknow MP done for you?

Nothing. He is such a big and powerful minister in the Centre. But he did give you demonetisation,” Dimple said. She also took on Uma Bharti’s comment where the firebrand leader had claimed she used to get rapists tortured while she was Madhya Pradesh CM.

Referring to the Gujarat sex racket issue, Dimple said Uma Bharti should go to Kutch in Gujarat and look at role of BJP leaders in it. In tune with her husband Akhilesh Yadav’s comment on the PM, she said said some leaders were in anger, panic and whose blood pressure had shot up due to SP’s wave.

The two bahus showed good camaraderie, with Dimple saying Aparna was a young lady and people should make her win and there not be a repeat of last time when SP lost the seat to Rita Bahaguna Joshi, then with Congress and now fighting from the BJP. Aparna, who is facing a tough fight from Joshi, praised Akhilesh and his step to compensate families of those who died due to demonetisation.

Aparna also repeatedly raised slogans hailing Akhilesh and Dimple. “I am fortunate that my jethani Dimple is here and this is a tight slap to those who spread rumours about our family,” Aparna, wife of Prateek Yadav, said. Akhilesh who campaigned for other Lucknow candidates like his key minister Abhishek Mishra and cousin Anurag Yadav, is still to campaign for Aparna.

Meanwhile, a speaker on the stage on Wednesday said one will not only vote for a MLA in Aparna but a minister, drawing a smile from Aparna and Dimple Yadav.
