The second phase of elections to 67 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh and 69 seats in Uttarakhand will be held on Wednesday. Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a triangular contest between the Samajwadi Party-Congress, BJP and BSP, while the fight in Uttarakhand has about a dozen rebel candidates in the fray as Independents may upset the calculations of Congress and BJP which have been traditionally the two main contenders for power in the state.

Today is the last date for replying to queries on cash deposits during the demonetisation period. Earlier the I-T department had extended to February 15 the last date for people to declare details of cash donations or gifts of Rs 20,000 or more to reduce the chances of further scrutiny. In an FAQ to clear the doubts over replying to SMS or e-mail queries received with regard to suspicious deposits made post note ban, the tax department said assessees should give “explanations” of the source of cash.

The PSLV - C37 carrying 104 satellites will be launched from the Satish Dhavan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 9.28 am today. “Carrying 104 satellites is not technologically a great thing. The main challenge before us is how to assemble and separate them as no two satellites should not collide with the rockets. We are arranging it in the same orbit and then separating it at different locations as well as in different directions”, said Dr K. Sivan, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. PSLV – C37 is the 39th launch of PSLV launch vehicle.

The country’s latest private airline, Zoom Air, will start daily scheduled operations on the Delhi-Kolkata-Durgapur-Delhi sector from Wednesday. The same will be extended to Amritsar in the afternoon, followed by Delhi-Surat-Bhavnagar-Delhi, an evening service. The airline becomes India’s 10th scheduled carrier in domestic skies, with others being Air India, Air India Express, Jet Airways, Jetlite, Indigo, Spicejet, GoAir, Vistara and Air Asia India.

Drivers attached to taxi aggregator platforms Uber and Ola across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are planning a joint strike on February 15 to protest against reduced earnings. Dropping earnings for drivers has been a matter of concern for some months now, with initial protests emerging in Hyderabad and then Bengaluru, the largest market for taxi aggregators. Currently, drivers on both platforms are protesting against the same issues of reducing earnings in Delhi.
