Donald Trump will be blessing in disguise for India, says Mukesh Ambani

While the world tries to adjust to Donald Trump, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani sees the US president as a blessing in disguise, saying his protectionist moves will get India's IT industry to focus on solving local problems.

"It will focus the Indian talent and Indian IT industry to solve problems in India. The domestic market is huge," he said.

"We should continue to be open and not worry about what world thinks. The world may build a wall but we should not think about that," Ambani said.

Ambani was speaking at the Nasscom Summit.

Stressing on data and how it will shape India, Ambani said, "The 4th industrial revolution is connectivity and data. To my mind, data is new natural resource. Fundamentally, you have to have lot of people to generate and use data. So India is naturally blessed with 1.3 billion people. Data in its raw form is useful but it to have real value, it has to be processed into intelligence. We are at the beginning of that era where data is the new oil."

Terming mobile phone as the "technology of the century", he said, "Combined with machine learning and deep learning and natural language processing, it is going to redefine the quality of information and services for ordinary Indians which was impossible before."

The RIL head also said that the humankind is on the verge of exponential growth. "In next 20 years, humankind has the opportunity to solve what we could not do in 300 years. So these are exciting times."

On Aadhaar card, he said, "Aadhaar enabled us to get a million customers a day which was unheard of earlier."

To India's growing community of entrepreneurs, Ambani said that they should focus on solving problems which does good to people in some way and not get disheartened by failures. "Treat your investors' money even more carefully than your own. Also you cannot do anything without the right team," he added.
