BookMyShow acquires 75% stake in Townscript
BENGALURU: Mumbai-based entertainment ticketing portal BookMyShow has acquired a 75% stake in Pune-based DIY (do it yourself) event registration and ticketing platform Townscript in an undisclosed all cash deal.
Townscript which has already provided its services to over 12,000 events across India, including smaller cities like Ludhiana and Jaipur focuses on the registration and ticketing needs of small and medium scale events such as office conferences, workshops, exhibitions, tech events and so on.
"We definitely expect to see more traction in the space of do it yourself ticketing events. It's unique and addresses a different set of users who want to set up their own events. They will operate as an independent entity but will be accessible through the BMS site and gain access to our existing user base," said Ashish Hemrajani, co-founder of BookMyShow.
Users can set up their own events in five minutes through Townscript's services and have the option to chose from two apps. One app is dedicated to enthusiasts looking to book exciting or unusual events around them like a tech conference and the second for event organisers, in order to help them manage registrations on the go. The platform charges 3.99% plus Rs.10 per transaction, inclusive of the payment gateway fee.
Founded in 2014 by Sachin Sharma and Sanchit Malik, the platform has catered to events like marathons, college festivals, women-centric luncheons amongst other events.
Last month, BookMyShow acquired Hyderabad-based MastiTickets in an all-cash deal for an undisclosed amount. Prior to this, the firm had made three acquisitions in the past, Chennai-based online ticketing player TicketGreen in 2013, social media analytics startup Eventifier in 2015, and fan relationship management startup Fantain Sports in 2016. In 2016, BookMyShow sold over 100 million tickets and expects to double the growth in the coming year while it strongly focuses on regional markets.
