West Bengal BJP spokesperson Krishanu Mitra quits party after differences

KOLKATA: Bengal BJP spokesperson Krishanu Mitra has left the organisation following differences of opinion with the state party chief Dilip Ghosh over certain key ideological issues. Mitra had contested last year's Assembly elections from Kamarhati seat on a BJP ticket, but lost.

Mitra's resignation is being viewed as a reflection of first major inner-party squabble in Bengal BJP. Mitra, who is known to be close to former party chief Rahul Sinha, has left the organisation after raising certain allegations against the sitting party chief Dilip Ghosh.

Ghosh, on the other hand, said Mitra's resignation wouldn't have any impact on the saffron brigade of Bengal. "Mitra was not attending any party function for the past few months. He was also not holding any key position of the party. Naturally, his resignation has nothing to do with BJP's organisational matters and growth of the party," said Ghosh.

Mitra has alleged that Ghosh had failed to organise any pro-Hindu movement in Bengal even though the party has two Union ministers from the state and three MLAs. "Ghosh is allowing expelled and corrupt CPIM leaders to become members of our party. But I think, he would not be able to strengthen our organisation by inducting corrupt and expelled CPIM leaders. Questions are being raised within BJP circles here about certain persons who are accompanying Ghosh all the time.

"MLA Dilip Babu, How come Amartya Sen is evil but criminal conspiracy, fraud and cheating young job aspirants is not? Admitting rogue CPIM elements in the party is not? Child trafficking is not? Having fake degree is not? Using different identities for government jobs and party is not?," Mitra tweeted recently before quitting the party.

In the recent past, a BJP functionary had questioned the authenticity of academic qualifications of the party chief Dilip Ghosh. Mitra also mentioned about this in his recent tweet.

BJP insiders said that Mitra was receiving phone calls from many leaders of RSS and the party for raising such issues against the state party chief ever since he left the party.
