Govt to fix drug eluting stent cost at Rs 29,600, bare metal stent at Rs 7,260

Heart patients in need of angioplasty and stents have a reason to cheer. After nearly a year, prices of stents have now been fixed by the government, bringing down the cost manifold.

According to sources in the know, prices of drug eluting stent would be fixed at Rs 29,600, while that of bare metal stents would stand at just Rs 7,260.

An official notification is expected on Tuesday.

According to data shared by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority earlier, prices of stents jump exponentially by as much as 1000 per cent from the production till the time it reaches patients.

Drug eluting and bioresorbable stents could cost a patient as much as Rs 2 lakh. This move is expected to bring some relief to patients.

Following the notification, the Drug Price Control Order also directs hospitals to display the prices of stents prominentally in the hospital premises.
