Telecom major Vodafone has launched its 4G services in Chennai. In Tamil Nadu, it had already rolled out 4G in nine places, including Coimbatore and Madurai.
However, the launch in the city was delayed because of Cyclone Vardah, said S Murali, Business Head-Tamil Nadu, Vodafone India.
The company’s 4G is now available across 17 circles that contribute around 95 per cent of Vodafone India’s data revenue. With the launch of it in Goa soon, the 4G will be available in 2,400 towns by March, he told newspersons.
Murali said Tamil Nadu was the largest telecom circle by revenue, and growing at 1.5 times in 4G handsets. Growth in data consumption is around 24 per cent year-on-year, he said without give absolute numbers.
On Vodafone’s commitment to Tamil Nadu, Murali said the company has a 23.3 per cent revenue market share in the state. It has invested around ₹7,000 crore, and has around 16 million customers in the State, he said.
On Chennai market for 4G, Murali said 4G handset has growth twice in the last six months. Two out of three customers in the city are data users, he said without giving any numbers.
On the 4G launch offer, Vodafone will provide free SIM upgrade; free 2GB data on SIM upgrade and unlimited data for one hour at ₹18. Consumers can buy a new 4G handset and get 10 GB data at ₹265. The 4G package range from 30 MB at ₹8 to 22 GB at ₹999, he said.
