Phase-I of polling in the seven-phase assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will begin on Saturday. Nearly 2.6 crore people in 73 constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh will be eligible to vote in the first phase of the crucial Assembly elections, seen as a litmus test for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nearly three-year rule.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will address the boards of the Reserve Bank and markets regulator SEBI on Saturday and discuss various financial sector reforms announced in the Union Budget 2017-18. The customary post-Budget address of the Finance Minister before the boards of the two regulators comes against the backdrop of the government pegging fiscal deficit at 3.2 per cent of GDP for the financial year ending March 2018.
The SEBI board is to meet on Saturday to take forward reform measures and discuss amending Debenture Trustee regulations, steps taken regarding P-notes, collective investment scheme and cases involving NSE and NSEL. The SEBI board is likely to initiate a public consultation process for changes to the Debenture Trustee (DT) regulations.
A two-day international conference to discuss recent trends in special education opens in Munnar in Kerala on Saturday. A host of global experts from Sweden, Israel, Australia, the US, besides India, are expected to take part in the event. Titled ‘Recent trends in Special Education for Young Persons With Special Needs’, the conference is being organised by ‘Srishti’, a public charitable trust, and ‘DARE’ (Developmental Activities in Rehabilitative Education), which provides special education to the differently-abled in the town, with the support of Tata Global Beverages.
