PM Narendra Modi in Rajya Sabha: Only Manmohan Singh knows how to take a shower wearing a raincoat

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said in Rajya Sabha that the war against black money and corruption is not against any political party and there is no reason for anyone to dissociate from it.

* Former bureaucrat Madhav Godbole in a book wrote that in 1971 Indira Gandhi ji was advised by then FM to demonetise, but she rejected idea

* If I would have been in your place, I would have filed case against Madhav Godbole for sensitive charges against Indira Gandhi in his book Unfinished Innings.

* If maoist surrenders, everyone in this house will be pleased.

* In 40 days almost 700 Maoists surrendered during period of November-December. This happened for the first time

* Honest people will not be empowered unless dishonest people are punished

* Long time ago, Wanchoo committee had recommended demonetisation. But at that time, the Indira Gandhi government did not implement it, probably thinking of the elections

* Corruption has adversely impacted the aspirations of the poor and the middle class

* Demonetisation and the will of Indian citizen is a subject of study

* Banks have got a lot of money and they have reduced interest rates

* You quote foreign economists,I can quote 10 of them on the fact that such an action hasn't been taken in the world ever

* For the first time, a horizontal divide was visible. Mood of the people completely different from mood of politicians

* There is no world parallel to our bold step of banning bigger denominations

* Today India is working to correct the wrongs that entered our society

* Manmohan Singh is a respectable figure, he has played decisive role in Indian economy

* No violence occurred during demonetisation, it shows people's support to the movement

* We want to make people enable digitally wherever possible

* People are booking rail tickets, paying electricity bills online

* We have tried to fulfill aspirations of societies

* DBT has stopped leakage in various welfare schemes

* BHIM app is a very good arrangement, we should promote it

* Around 20 per cent traffic now pays tolls using RFID

* Around 29 to 30 per cent people buys petrol/diesel using cards

* We have formed 6 Debt Recovery Tribunal; we have instituted Banks Board Bureau for appointments in banks

* There is no reason to drag RBI in controversies and demean it

* PM cites D Subbarao's book to attack P Chidambaram to counter Congress' claim of government interference in RBI's functioning

* This government has worked a lot on the issue of governance

* We will soon facilitate Post offices with Passport issuing mechanism

* More than 1 crore 65 lakh households have been provided with LPG

* Cleanliness is responsibility of all

* Sanitation coverage has increased to 60 per cent in rural areas from 40 per cent

* Universalisation of women helpline has been done

* We have implemented a new fertiliser policy

* We want big marketplaces in tribal belts

* We should promote competition among states, municipalities for cleanliness

* We launched One India, Great India to increase communication among all states
