Secretaries group looking into I&B Ministry issues: Venkaiah Naidu

NEW DELHI: A group of secretaries is considering various issues concerning the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu told the Lok Sabha today.

Maintaining that a report of this group is yet to be received, the Information and Broadcasting Minister also said an expert committee chaired by Sam Pitroda had in its report submitted in January 2014 recommended a long term vision and strategy for Prasar Bharati.

"A Group of Secretaries has been considering apart from issues relating to other Ministries, the issues concerning the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also, but no report of the group has been received by this Ministry," Naidu said during Question Hour.

He was responding to a query on whether a panel of secretaries has suggested to the government to make public broadcasters -- Doordarshan and All India Radio -- corporate entities so as to reduce their dependence on government funds and given them elbow room to take decisions.
