Times Now enters mainland Europe

MUMBAI: Times Now, India’s leading English news channel, is set to expand its footprint across 100 countries after joining hands with German pay TV and over-the-top company Bubbles Media for launch of the channel in Europe.

The deal is expected to add a potential audience of 1.4 million Indians in mainland Europe, across countries such as Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

MK Anand, managing director and chief executive at Times Network, the company which owns the channel, said: “Today, with India’s growing participation in international affairs, engaging with the Indian diaspora is equally important towards our economic development.”

“Through our approach towards television news journalism, we plan to represent a modern, vibrant, successful and vocal India to the world,” Anand added.

While Times Now was launched 11 years back, its international expansion started only in early 2011, with its commercial launch in Australia. In six years, the channel now reaches 10 million Indians outside the home market, across five continents.

Recently, the channel was launched in the UK.

“This is truly a landmark achievement considering we were the last Indian TV network to begin international operations and have reached 100 countries in just a little over five years,” said Naveen Chandra, head of international business at Times Network. “We are all set to launch our first local content initiatives in Europe and look forward to growing aggressively in the future.”

Times Now has consistently been the most watched English News Channel over the last nine years in India and continues to dominate the local market.

According to Broadcast Audience Research Council data, Times Now commands a 43% market share in the English News category, and 58% during prime time English News.

Times Network is part of Bennett Coleman & Co, the publisher of this newspaper.
