With enough smartphones coming with large batteries, power saving software features, quick charging and with there being huge power banks around, another battery-centric phone in the market may not be the need of the hour.
But Taiwanese company Asus thinks otherwise with the introduction of its new Zenfone 3s Max. The ‘Max’ refers to a 5,000mAh battery that does not, in fact, make this phone a paperweight.
But there is not much to this phone but the battery — and the fact that it is running on Android 7.0 when most others have not yet caught up to this newest version.
The 3s Max follows the current design template fairly closely, except for a tweak here and there. All metal, curved glass, pale gold, aerial line, etc are all there except for a strident black Asus logo on the back.
Other than the battery, all other specs, including the 720p display, are entry level. The updated Android is overwhelmed by Asus' own interface, which is fairly Chinese flavoured with its icons and themes and far too many preloaded apps.
These not only take up space but annoy with continuous push notifications so you can opt for one feature or the other.
