Gold demand in India fell to 675.5 tonnes in CY2016: World Gold Council

NEW DELHI: The gold demand in India stood at 675.5 tonnes in calendar 2016 compared to 857.2 tonnes in 2015 - a decline of 21.19%, according to data released by World Gold Council on Friday.
The total jewellery demand in India for 2016 was down by 22.4% at 514 tonnes as compared to 662.3 tonnes in 2015. The value of jewellery demand in 2016 was Rs. 138,837.8 crores, a drop of 12.3% from 2015 (Rs. 158,310.4 crore).
The total investment demand for 2016 was down by 17.1% at 161.5 tonnes in comparison to 194.9 tonnes in 2015. In value terms, gold investment demand was Rs. 43,647.5 crores, a fall of 6.3% from 2015 (Rs. 46,597.3 crores)
The total gold recycled in India in 2016 was 89.6 tonnes as compared to 80.2 tonnes in 2015.
