Sensex turns choppy; Nifty50 tests 8,700 level

NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Sensex turned choppy in morning trade on Thursday. The index was trading with a slight positive bias, led by gains in ITC, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, and ONGC.

The Nifty50 was trading around its crucial support level of 8,700, supported by gains in power, consumer durables, banks, and telecoms stocks.

At 09:25 am: The 30-share index was trading 26 points higher or 0.09 per cent at 28,168. It touched a high of 28,191.23 and a low of 28,106.75 in morning trade.

The Nifty50 was trading at 8,704 down 13 points or 0.15 per cent. It touched a high of 8,725.95 and a low of 8,697.65 in the first 30 minutes of trade.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was trading 0.18 per cent up and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.23 per cent higher.

ITC (up 3.4 per cent), NTPC (up 1.5 per cent), ONGC (up 1.6 per cent), Bharti Airtel (up 1.4 per cent), and Adani Ports (up 1.3 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers.

HDFC (down 1.9 per cent), M&M (down 1.5 per cent), Tata Motors (down 1.4 per cent), Wipro (down 1.4 per cent) were the major Sensex losers.
