Spot turmeric prices at Erode markets showed a mixed trend amid a decrease in arrivals. “Farmers were bringing limited bags as they were not happy with the prevailing price. Stockists, who were holding on to their produce, started selling their stocks to reduce their inventory,” said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. On Thursday, 2,200 bags arrived for sale and the traders purchased 65 per cent stocks for their local orders. The finger variety decreased by ₹200 a quintal in some market yards and increased by ₹100 in other places. But the root variety lost ₹300. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,414-8,659 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,114-8,014. Of the arrival of 1,412 bags, 655 were sold.
