Tata Motors shares slip over 2% on soft Jan sales figures

Shares of Tata Motors slipped over 2.07 per cent in early trade on Thursday after the auto major on Wednesday reported a 1 per cent fall in total sales in January at 46,349 units compared with 47,035 units sold in the same month last year.

The scrip was trading 2.01 per cent down at Rs 530.85 around 9.40 am (IST). On BSE, 78,000 shares were traded on the counter in the first one hour, compared with the average daily volume of 325,000 shares. The stock had hit a high of Rs 541.90 and a low of Rs 530.20 in the first hour of trade.

Domestic sales of Tata Motors' commercial and passenger vehicles remained flat at 41,428 units in January 2017 over January 2016.

For January, the company reported 21 per cent year-on-year growth in sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market at 12,907 units on the back of strong demand for the Tata Tiago.

In the commercial vehicles segment, domestic sales slipped 7 per cent to 28,521 units, the auto major said.

Exports during the month declined 13 per cent to 4,921 units compared with 5,637 units sold in January 2016.
